Su padre, también escritor, lo crio en un ambiente literario. Eso, sumado a su timidez provocada por una enfermedad temprana, hizo que Fernández de Moratín se centrara en las letras desde pequeño. Después de ganar algunos certámenes poéticos, obtuvo un puesto de secretario del conde Cabarrús y eso lo llevó de viaje a varios países europeos, aunque su preferido fue Francia. Amigo de Jovellanos y Goldoni, protegido de Godoy, Fernández de Moratín introdujo el teatro neoclásico francés en España. Además de su amplia obra, trabajó también como traductor de teatro de autores como Molière o Shakespeare.

Meyer (1858-1938) var dansk stukkatør, socialdemokrat, journalist, forfatter og politiker. Fra barnsben lærte han fattigdommens vilkår at kende, og fra sit hjem på Nørrebro i København overværede han arbejdernes kamp for bedre vilkår. Konfrontationen mellem politi og arbejdere under Slaget på Fælleden i 1872 gjorde stort indtryk på den unge Meyer, og allerede som ung lærling på en symaskinefabrik holdt han sine første politiske taler. Han blev hurtigt en del af fagbevægelsen og siden medlem af Socialdemokratiet, hvor han arbejdede som journalist for partiets dagblad Social-Demokraten. I 1895 blev han valgt til Folketinget, hvor han sad frem til 1932. Gennem hele sit liv og politiske virke var han stærkt optaget af at forbedre forholdene for fattige og især nødlidende børn og grundlagde derfor hjælpeorganisationen Børnenes Kontor i slutningen af 1890'erne. Børnenes Kontor eksisterer stadig og uddeler beklædnings- og fødevarehjælp til værdigt trængende børn.

La "Gerusalemme liberata", composta da ben quindicimila endecasillabi e costata all’autore sedici anni di lavoro febbrile e di timori per la censura, è uno dei maggiori capolavori della letteratura italiana. Ambientato in Terrasanta ai tempi della I Crociata (1096-1099), il poema vede come protagonista principale Goffredo di Buglione – condottiero storicamente esistito – al comando di cavalieri valorosi e fedeli come Rinaldo e Tancredi. Gerusalemme, governata dal sovrano Aladino, è difesa a sua volta da prodi soldati, fra cui spiccano le due guerriere Argante e Clorinda.In un tripudio di battaglie epiche, scontri magici e interventi demoniaci, il poema finisce col restituire non solo una storia meravigliosa e dal fascino eterno, ma anche l’affresco delle fantasie, delle pulsioni e delle paure di un grande poeta italiano come Torquato Tasso, costretto, suo malgrado, a misurarsi con l’arida temperie controriformistica della sua epoca.Torquato Tasso (1544-1595) nasce a Sorrento dal poeta bergamasco Bernardo. Dopo aver vissuto a Napoli con la madre e le sorelle, attorno ai dieci anni raggiunge il padre a Roma. Educato alle dispute letterarie e alla vita di corte, trascorre anni di studio a Padova e a Bologna, rinunciando presto alla carriera giuridica per dedicarsi alla poesia. Nel 1565 si apre forse la parentesi più bella della sua vita, quando è ammesso alla corte ferrarese di Alfonso II d’Este: qui, infatti, comporrà le sue opere più famose, l'"Aminta" e la "Gerusalemme liberata". In un’epoca segnata dall’oscurantismo religioso – e forse in virtù di un disturbo psicologico mai precisato – il poeta inizia ben presto a manifestare segni di paranoia, rivolgendosi più volte, spontaneamente, all’Inquisizione. Rinchiuso per ben sette anni nell’ospedale di Sant’Anna, dal 1586 trascorre frenetici anni di viaggio, fino a quando, poco prima di ricevere l’incoronazione a poeta in Campidoglio, si ritira nel convento romano di Sant’Onofrio, dove muore a soli cinquantun anni.

‘Ravenna’ is one of Wilde’s earliest poems, written while he was a student at Oxford in the 1870s. He submitted it as an entry for the Newdigate Prize, in which the subject for a poem was already set. As chance would have it, Wilde had already visited Ravenna in the previous year and had already begun work on a poem, celebrating the "much-loved city." Needless to say, Wilde won the Newdigate Prize, despite submitting his entry anonymously. Lo poema del cor és una col·lecció de poesia que beu de la tradició catalana i dels costums cristians. Una poesia costumista, propera, que parla del drama humà. Algunes de les peces, com "Las tempestats del cor" o "Aigua benehida", parlen del dia a dia en un ambient rural. D'altres són diàlegs poètics entre personatges, una mescla de poema i peça teatral. Una obra de poesia quotidiana i senzilla molt en la tònica de l'autor.Teodoro Baró i Sureda (Figueres, 1842- 1916) va ser escriptor, polític, advocat i periodista català. Tot i que la seva carrera va estar centrada principalment en el periodisme i la política, va publicar diverses obres de poesía, teatre, novel•la i no ficció, amb més de trenta llibres. Com a periodista, va ser el director de medis com el Diari de Barcelona, a més d’ocupar diversos càrrecs polítics, vinculat al Partit Liberal.

El escritor argentino Hilario Ascasubi presenta «Paulino Lucero» como una historia de los gauchos del Río de La Plata que cantaban y combatían contra los tiranos de la República argentina y el oriente del Uruguay (de 1839 a 1851). «Lirios silvestres» es una recopilación de poemas de Josefina Pelliza de Sagasta, que la autora publicó poco antes de cumplir treinta años. Algunos de los poemas reunidos son «¡Pobre mujer!», «Yo era feliz», «Ven F», «Mi amor», «En la selva», «Adiós a mi hogar» o «La romántica».Josefina Pelliza de Sagasta (1848-1888) fue una poeta, periodista y escritora argentina. Dirigió la revista «La Alborada del Plata», tras la dirección de Juana Manuela Gorriti, así como «El Álbum del Hogar». Luchó a favor de los derechos de la mujer. Entre sus obras literarias destacan sus poemarios, como «Pasionarias» y «Lirios silvestres», y sus novelas, como «Margarita» o «La Chiriguana».

«Lágrimas» es una recopilación de ensayos poéticos de Agustina Andrade. Algunos de los poemas de este poemario son «A mi madre», «A mi padre», «Mis hermanos», «Lo que soy», «Envidia», «¡Dejadme en paz!», «Al yuquerí», «Al mismo», «Adiós», «¿Por qué estoy triste?» o «Nuestras almas».Agustina Andrade (1858-1891) fue una poetisa argentina, considerada una de las principales escritoras de la generación del 80. Sus primeros poemas estaban inspirados en Víctor Hugo o Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. Publicó en varios periódicos de la época como «La Ondina del Plata» o en «La Tribuna». Sus poemarios más célebres son «Lágrimas» y «Flor de un día».
