"Det tabte land" er første del af Johannes V. Jensens seks bind store romankompleks "Den lange rejse", som omhandler menneskeslægtens udvikling fra urtiden og frem til 1500-tallet. I "Det tabte land" befinder vi os hos skovfolket, som lever i pagt med naturen blandt vilde dyr. Deres forfædre, urmenneskene, levede i trækronerne, men deres største fjende ilden, tvang dem ned på sletterne, hvor det var nemmere at flygte fra flammernes omsluttende hav.Johannes V.
