La sua ossessione diventerà sempre più intensa con il procedere della narrazione, per poi sfociare in un tragico finale.Daniele Oberto Marrama (1874-1912) fu un giornalista ed avvocato particolarmente attivo nel territorio napoletano tra la fine dell’Ottocento e l’inizio del Novecento. Fu redattore del "Mattino" e "Il Giorno", nonché redattore capo della rivista letteraria "La Settimana", fondata dall'amica scrittrice Matilde Serao.Condusse una vita anarchica da bohémien, intrisa di convinzioni antimonarchiche. Fu principalmente autore di racconti e novelle, ma si dedicò anche alla saggistica breve e alla poesia. La sua opera maggiormente conosciuta è la raccolta di storie horror e soprannaturali "Il ritratto del morto", uscita in volume nel 1907.
