También ha escrito obras de teatro para grupos como La Fura dels Baus. Compagina su labor literaria con su faceta de profesora en la Escuela de Escritura del Ateneo Barcelonés.

Vuosi 1917. Kansalaissota varjostaa tamperelaista pihapiiriä, jossa varttuu joukko lapsia. Yhdeksänvuotiasta Lauria huolestuttaa, mitä hänen äidilleen on tapahtunut. Poika kastelee öisin sänkynsä ja saa aamuisin kuulla kunniansa ankaralta Hanna-tädiltä. Koulussa ja pihalla on onneksi toisenlaista. Lapset ovat lapsia sota-aikanakin, eivätkä huumorintajuttomat aikuiset pysty kahlehtimaan heidän levottomuuttaan ja leikkiä, joka muuttaa kaiken jälleen hyväksi. Oiva Paloheimon mukaan ainuttakaan hetkeä ihmiselämässä ei pitäisi elää vajaasti, ei lapsenakaan. Paloheimon omaelämäkerrallinen esikoisromaani voitti Kalevi Jäntin palkinnon. Sävykäs ja herkkävireinen kerronta tavoittaa lapsen kokemuksen ajattomine iloineen ja suruineen.Kirjailija Oiva Paloheimo (1910–1973) tunnetaan erityisesti lastenromaanista "Tirlittan". Hän julkaisi kuitenkin monipuolisesti myös aikuisten kaunokirjallisuutta. Hän sai Kalevi Jäntin palkinnon vuonna 1943 teoksellaan "Levoton lapsuus".
