Scritta durante il periodo che l'autore trascorse in Eritrea, questa raccolta di poesie di gusto scapigliato anticipa una certa tendenza a tematiche tipiche del periodo futurista. Seppur inizialmente influenzato da un'educazione di stampo cattolico, tipicamente moralista e paternalista, è infatti evidente in Invrea un particolare sentire decadente, che avvicina i temi narrativi dell'autore alla produzione crepuscolare.Gaspare Invrea (1850 - 1917), noto con lo pseudonimo di Remigio Zena, è stato un autore e intellettuale italiano. Di origini aristocratiche, ebbe un'educazione fortemente religiosa che lo portò ad arruolarsi per la difesa di Roma durante la Breccia di Porta Pia.Vicino a Manzoni per la connotazione religiosa dei suoi scritti e a Verga per la predilezione verso personaggi di ceto sociale basso, i poveri e gli emarginati, Invrea ha scritto racconti, romanzi e componimenti poetici di intonazione religiosa e moraleggiante, ma anche dotati di tratti ironici e vivaci, di gusto scapigliato. Tra le sue opere, la più famosa è il romanzo e testo teatrale "La bocca del lupo" (1872).

Sul finire del 1869 Nanà si trasferisce da Parigi a Milano. Il motivo non è chiaro a nessuno, tantomeno a lei, fatto sta che la città che le si presenta davanti sembra accoglierla sin da subito. Esponente più noto del movimento degli Scapigliati, l’interpretazione italiana della vita bohemien parigina, la sua figura letteraria è molto legata al Risorgimento e all’Unità d’Italia.

Laureatosi in legge all’Università di Parma (1906), esercita brevemente la professione di avvocato a Milano. In quegli stessi anni inizia ad ottenere un certo successo anche come scrittore, dapprima con la stesura di racconti e romanzi allegorici, poi, soprattutto, con i suoi celebri resoconti di viaggio: collaborando col Touring Club Italiano, Linati girerà infatti l’Europa con i più svariati mezzi, pubblicando vari reportage sulle principali testate italiane. Estremamente legato alla sua terra – celebrata in romanzi come, ad esempio, "Cantalupa" – Linati si distingue anche come brillante traduttore di James Joyce, con cui intrattiene un lungo rapporto di amicizia.

Scrisse romanzi e racconti dalla vena etica, incrociando influssi veristi e dannunziani, descrivendo la dura vita quotidiana dei compaesani sardi. Tra le sue opere non si possono non citare "Canne al vento", "Elias Portolu" e "Marianna Sirca".

Sofia är i tjugoårsåldern, hon har man och barn och studerar konsthistoria med fokus på modellbygge. Egentligen är hon inte särskilt intresserad av just byggnader, snarare människorna som bor i dem, livet som levs i och kring byggnader. Hon är ambitiös och har höga förväntningar på framtiden.Efter ett läkarbesök konstateras det att Sofia har drabbats av diabetes. Till följd av sjukdomen blir hon orkeslös, går upp i vikt och får problem med synen. Även psykiskt tär det på henne och snart känner hon inte längre igen sig själv; inte ska väl hon ligga trött och tung i en sjukhussäng när hennes familj är hemma och hon har en utbildning att se till?Vid tjugo blev hon söt är såväl en samhällsreflektion som en personlig skildring av ett äktenskap och en ung kvinnas sökande efter identitet.Gun Björkman (1935-2001) var en svensk egyptolog och författare.

Full of vibrant characters, this is a fascinating story by the Victorian author.Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a British author, best known as the creator of the world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, he was educated in England and Austria before studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh. It was during his time at university that Doyle began writing short stories, submitting them to magazines and journals. His first Sherlock Holmes novel, ‘A Study in Scarlet’ was written in just three weeks and published in 1887 to favourable reviews, and more Sherlock adventures followed. By 1893, Doyle was growing tired of Sherlock and attempted to kill him off in the story ‘The Final Problem’, but public outcry caused him to resurrect the famous detective. He featured in a total of 56 short stories and four novels along with his trusty sidekick Dr Watson and made Doyle one of the best-paid authors of the time. The stories have been adapted multiple times; most recently in the successful BBC series ‘Sherlock’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Later literary works included the Professor Challenger series which began with ‘The Lost World’, in which Challenger sets out to find evidence of prehistoric life. The book inspired numerous adaptations, including the films ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘The Lost World’. In later life Doyle became captivated by the world of spiritualism and the occult and published non-fiction works about his beliefs including ‘The Coming of the Fairies’. Arthur Conan Doyle died at home in 1930.
